MISTI-Con is coming out of hiatus for our 10-year anniversary!
After the past three years, it feels like we could all use some family, fellowship, and the joy of each other's company. Return to the place it all started -- on Lake Winnipesaukee at the Margate Resort.
What's a reunion and how is it different from a convention?
The MISTI-Con reunion will be a more informal affair, with greater emphasis on celebrating the fandom, the fans, and all the ways we can build each other up. It'll be on a smaller, more intimate scale than a full convention.
What will be the same?
The fabulous scenery and costumes. The discussions, panels, and presentations — but running on one or two tracks at a time instead of eight, so it'll be easier to get to all the programming you want. The amazing performances. Most of all, the inclusive environment we strive to create, welcoming and open to everyone.
What will be new?
From now through the close of the event, the reunion includes a campaign to raise funds for the Transgender Law Center, fighting tirelessly to champion the rights and safety of transgender and gender nonconforming people.
Sometimes, a fandom gets a cause handed to us directly. In response to anti-trans statements from J.K. Rowling, Wizarding fan communities are called upon to protect ourselves and our loved ones. The MISTI-Con organizers believe that every fan must take their own approach to processing this situation; everyone is working through their own feelings at their own pace. With that said, we categorically stand with our trans, intersex, and non-binary wizarding folk, and will not hold activities or programs that personally support Rowling or her harmful views.
We're looking forward to sharing more details in the coming months. We can't wait to reunite to present programming, show off costumes, dance and sing together, share creative works, and express support and validation for all of our trans, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC members of the community. Our shared Wizarding fandom is at its greatest when centered on our experiences together.
